Whitlock Set to Return, Sandoval Shines in Triple-A & Roster Shuffling (06/07/2026)
This page will be updated throughout the year with all the latest Red Sox injury news and transactions. The first weekend of June brings highly encouraging news from our pitching rehab assignments in the minor leagues:
Current Injured List Status
| Player (Pos.) | Injury | Expected Return | Status & Progress |
| Garrett Whitlock (RHP) | Left knee inflammation | June 9 | Great News: Made a rehab appearance for Triple-A Worcester on June 6, throwing a scoreless inning (1 H, 2 BB). Positioned to be activated as soon as eligible on June 9. |
| Patrick Sandoval (LHP) | Left biceps discomfort | July | Impressive Start: Began his rehab assignment on June 5 with Worcester, tossing 1 1/3 hitless innings (1 BB). Will continue building up to a starter’s workload. |
| Romy Gonzalez (INF/OF) | Left shoulder surgery | July | Progressing well; took two-handed swings on the field on June 4. Next step will be releasing his top hand on the follow-through. |
| Garrett Crochet (LHP) | Left shoulder / lat tightness | July | Transferred to the 60-day IL on June 5. This move was purely procedural, as the 60 days expire in late June before he’s ready anyway. IIdled from throwing. |
| Trevor Story (SS) | Sports hernia | After the All-Star break | Transferred to the 60-day IL on June 4. Given the 8-to-12 week timetable following his May 21 surgery, he won’t be eligible until right after the break. |
| Triston Casas (1B) | Left abdominal strain | After All-Star break at earliest | Currently in the very early stages of a hitting program, but remains a ways away from an official return to game action. |
| Nick Sogard (INF) | Right oblique strain | June 9 at earliest | Landing on the IL on June 3. Believed to be a nagging issue that shouldn’t keep him out for an extended period. |
| Kutter Crawford (RHP) | Right flexor irritation | After the All-Star break | Not progressing as originally hoped. He is scheduled to be evaluated by the team’s medical staff very soon. |
| Roman Anthony (OF/DH) | Right wrist sprain | June | Shut down after experiencing soreness from tee work on May 28. It remains unclear exactly when he will resume swinging. |
| Johan Oviedo (RHP) | Right flexor strain | No earlier than July | Expected to start forearm strengthening exercises soon, aiming to get back to a regular throwing program by mid-June. |
| Tanner Houck (RHP) | Torn UCL (Right elbow) | Aiming for late ’26 | Sticking to his routine of flat-ground throws, targeting a return to official mound work in late June. |
