Last-Minute Heroes in Worcester and Greenville!
Welcome back, Red Sox Nation, to the daily farm report on fenway-fans.de! June 9, 2026, was a day of crazy comebacks for our farm system. The Worcester Red Sox and the Greenville Drive both delivered breathtaking games, snatching victories in the late innings. The Portland Sea Dogs and Salem RidgeYaks, on the other hand, fought hard but narrowly came up short. The daily record stands at two wins and two losses (2-2).
Here is the recap from June 9th!
Worcester Red Sox (AAA) – Lloyd’s 9th-Inning 3-Run Homer Forces Extra Innings Win!
Final Score: Rochester Red Wings 5 – Worcester Red Sox 6 (10 Innings)
What an unbelievable finale at ESL Ballpark! The Worcester Red Sox looked like certain losers but showed absolute nerves of steel to win 6-5 in extra innings.
The team trailed 4-1 with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Then Matt Lloyd stepped to the plate and hammered a dramatic 3-Run Home Run into left field to tie the game out of nowhere! In the tenth inning, Kristian Campbell delivered the game-winning run with a clutch RBI single.
On the mound, starter Jack Anderson put together an outstanding performance (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 K) that nearly went unrewarded. Reliever Wyatt Olds struck out the side in the ninth inning to earn the win, and Noah Song secured his second save of the season in the tenth with strong nerves and an intentional walk.
Highlights:
- Matt Lloyd: The hero of the day! His 2-out, 3-run home run in the 9th saved the game.
- Kristian Campbell: Provided the decisive RBI in the 10th inning.
- Jack Anderson: A brilliant 6-inning start that kept the team in a position to win.
Portland Sea Dogs (AA) – Grand Slam Breaks Portland’s Neck
Final Score: Portland Sea Dogs 5 – Reading Fightin Phils 7
Despite a fantastic offensive output in the first inning, the Portland Sea Dogs couldn’t hold their lead and fell 7-5 to the Fightin Phils.
Portland started explosively: An RBI double from Brooks Brannon, an RBI single from Johanfran Garcia, and a sacrifice fly brought a quick 3-0 lead. But starter Anthony Eyanson struggled mightily with his command (5 walks in 2.2 IP). When reliever Patrick Halligan took over, disaster struck in the fourth inning: Reading’s Caleb Ricketts hit a grand slam to completely turn the game around. Portland rallied in the ninth with a solo home run by Caden Rose and an RBI groundout, but it wasn’t enough.
Highlights:
- Franklin Arias & Brooks Brannon: Both players delivered fantastic 3-hit performances (both went 3-for-5).
- Johanfran Garcia: Also had a good day at the plate with 2 hits and an RBI.
Greenville Drive (High-A) – Cespedes Flips the Script in Inning Seven
Final Score: Winston-Salem Dash 7 – Greenville Drive 8
What a wild rollercoaster ride! The Greenville Drive engaged in a true slugfest and narrowly came out on top with an 8-7 win.
The Drive fell behind early but fought back in the second inning with home runs from Isaiah Jackson (2-run) and Ronny Hernandez. Hernandez was unstoppable on this day, finishing the game with an incredible 3 hits, 3 RBIs, and a home run! Winston-Salem pulled ahead 7-5 in the middle frames. But the seventh inning belonged to Yoeilin Cespedes: With an ice-cold 2-run single, he gave the Drive an 8-7 lead. The bullpen, led by winning reliever Calvin Bickerstaff (2.2 IP, 0 ER), shut the door the rest of the way.
Highlights:
- Ronny Hernandez: 3-for-4, 1 HR, 3 RBIs. A dominant showing!
- Yoeilin Cespedes: His 2-run single in the 7th inning decided the game for the Drive.
- Isaiah Jackson: Sent the ball over the fence for his 9th home run of the season.
Salem RidgeYaks (Single-A) – 5-Run Inning Not Enough for the Comeback
Final Score: Fayetteville Woodpeckers 7 – Salem RidgeYaks 6
The Salem RidgeYaks trailed seemingly hopelessly but showed tremendous fighting spirit. Unfortunately, the comeback attempt ended in a narrow 7-6 loss.
After four innings, Salem was already down 7-0 as starter Jason Gilman and the defense (four total errors in the game) couldn’t find any rhythm. In the sixth inning, the offensive knot finally burst: The team scored five consecutive runs! A 2-run single by Ilan Fernandez capped off this massive rally. In the ninth inning, Andrews Opata cut the deficit to 7-6 with another RBI single, but the tying run remained elusive.
Highlights:
Andrews Opata: 2-for-5 with an RBI that made the ninth inning incredibly tense.
Ilan Fernandez: Led the big 5-run inning with a strong 2-run single.
Griffin Kilander: Kept the game alive out of the bullpen with 2.2 scoreless innings.
