MiLB Farm Report: A Pitch-Black Day

All Teams Suffer Losses!

Welcome back, Red Sox Nation, to the daily farm report on fenway-fans.de! There are days in baseball that you just want to cross right off the calendar. Yesterday was exactly that kind of day for our Red Sox prospects. Three games, three losses, and a complete rainout on top of it.

Here is the honest recap of yesterday’s minor league action.

Worcester Red Sox (AAA) – Late Comeback Falls Short

Final Score: Rochester Red Wings 7 – Worcester Red Sox 5

The WooSox completely slept through the start at home at Polar Park and quickly found themselves in a deep hole. The Red Wings built a commanding 6-0 lead by the sixth inning.

But Worcester showed character and didn’t give up. In the sixth inning, Vinny Capra put Worcester on the board with a 2-run single. In the seventh, Mikey Romero added a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from Kristian Campbell. Hope flared up one last time in the ninth when Campbell hit a ground-rule double, but in the end, it was only enough for a 5-7 final score.

WooSox Highlights:

  • Nate Eaton: A great performance! He collected three hits, was constantly on base, and stole two bases.
  • Kristian Campbell: Fought until the very end, finishing the game with two hits and an RBI.
  • Vinny Capra: Put the team on the scoreboard in the first place with his 2 RBIs.

Portland Sea Dogs (AA) – Seventh Inning Collapse

Final Score: Reading Fightin Phils 7 – Portland Sea Dogs 3

For a long time, it looked like the Sea Dogs were engaged in a tight, winnable battle. It was a 0-0 tie going into the seventh inning due to dominant pitching on both sides.

Unfortunately, the Sea Dogs’ bullpen completely collapsed in the bottom of the seventh. The Fightin Phils exploded for six runs, capped off by a massive 3-run home run. Portland tried to respond – Franklin Arias hit his 11th home run of the season in the following frame – but the deficit was simply too large. A bitter end after an otherwise solid start.

Sea Dogs Highlights:

  • Franklin Arias: One of the few bright spots. His home run finally put Portland on the board. He finished with 2 hits.
  • Brooks Brannon: Stood out with a deep double.
  • Johanfran Garcia: Showed consistency at the plate, securing two hits.

Salem Red Sox (Single-A) – Eighth Inning Drama

Final Score: Salem Red Sox 4 – Howlers (Hillcats) 5

Salem had to swallow the most bitter pill of the day. Our youngest prospects held a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning before the game completely fell apart.

The opponents ruthlessly exploited bullpen struggles, scoring five runs in the eighth to take a 5-2 lead. But the squad’s morale is intact: In the very last inning (Top 9) with two outs, they fought back. Enddy Azocar crushed a massive 2-run triple into right field! Suddenly it was a 4-5 game. Unfortunately, the next batter struck out, and the sensational comeback was left unrewarded.

Greenville Drive (High-A) – Washed Out Again!

The weather in Frederick continues to thwart the Greenville Drive. After previous postponements, this game was also completely canceled due to rain.
