A 1-Hit Shutout in Worcester and an Unbelievable Sea Dogs Comeback!
Welcome back, Red Sox Nation, to the daily farm report on fenway-fans.de! Last night provided everything that makes Minor League Baseball so incredibly exciting. From historically good pitching in Worcester to an almost impossible comeback in Portland. While our upper affiliates shined brightly, Greenville and Salem unfortunately suffered tough losses.
Here is your compact recap of yesterday’s minor league action!
Worcester Red Sox (AAA) – A Historic 1-Hit Shutout!
Final Score: Worcester Red Sox 1 – Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 0
A game for the history books at PNC Field! The WooSox pitching staff delivered an absolute masterpiece, throwing a combined 1-hit shutout (allowing only a single hit the entire game).
Starting pitcher Jack Anderson laid the golden foundation, dominating for 4.2 innings, allowing zero runs, and striking out a sensational 8 batters. After that, Seth Martinez (Win), Kyle Keller, Wyatt Olds, and Tommy Kahnle (Save) took over and completely silenced the opposing offense. The only and decisive run of the entire evening was scored by Anthony Seigler in the very first inning with a massive solo home run. That was enough to secure this unforgettable 1-0 thriller!
WooSox Highlights:
- Jack Anderson & The Bullpen: A combined 1-hitter. Pure dominance on the mound!
- Anthony Seigler: His third home run of the season was the game-winner right in the first inning.
- Jason Delay: Strong behind the plate and contributed a solid double offensively.
Portland Sea Dogs (AA) – A Miracle Comeback from a 9-2 Deficit!
Final Score: Portland Sea Dogs 10 – Binghamton Rumble Ponies 9
If you had already lost faith in a game, the Sea Dogs proved you wrong yesterday! Things looked grim in the fourth inning: Binghamton exploded for six runs, and Portland found themselves in a hopeless 9-2 hole.
But then, one of the craziest comebacks of the season started in the fifth inning. The Sea Dogs fired on all cylinders, putting six (!) runs on the scoreboard, capped off by a crushing 2-run home run from Johanfran Garcia. Suddenly it was 9-8. In the seventh inning, Tyler McDonough hit a clutch RBI ground-rule double to tie the game at 9-9. The momentum had completely shifted! Finally, in the eighth inning, a poised RBI groundout by Will Turner brought home the much-celebrated go-ahead run to make it 10-9. The bullpen held the victory tight afterward.
Sea Dogs Highlights:
- Johanfran Garcia: His 8th home run of the season was the crucial spark for the massive rally.
- Marvin Alcantara: Very productive at the plate with a double, a single, and 2 RBIs.
- Brooks Brannon: Heavily involved in the mega-comeback with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Greenville Drive (High-A) – Heartbreak in Extra Innings
Final Score: Greenville Drive 2 – Asheville Tourists 3 (10 Innings)
An absolute pitching thriller that unfortunately didn’t have a happy ending for our Drive. Starting pitcher Devin Futrell delivered a rock-solid job (5.0 IP, 2 ER, 6 K), and Ben Hansen kept Greenville in the game brilliantly out of the bullpen (4.0 IP, 0 ER).
The game was tied 2-2 in regulation after Greenville managed to equalize thanks to an error in the sixth inning. However, in extra innings (10th inning), control faltered: Asheville won the game via an unfortunate walk-off wild pitch by Joan Ogando. A bitter walk-off end after a hard fight.
Drive Highlights:
- Devin Futrell & Ben Hansen: Strong performances on the hill kept the team in the game for a long time.
- Mason White: Hit a double and was active on the basepaths.
Salem Red Sox (Single-A) – Offense Falls Short
Final Score: Salem Red Sox 3 – Hickory Crawdads 7
There wasn’t much for Salem to grab against the favored Crawdads. The offense got going late, while the opposing team constantly put pressure on our pitchers.
The only real bright spot was provided by Frederik Jimenez, who showed a strong performance at the plate. He hit an important RBI double in the fifth inning and hammered the ball deep into center field for his second home run of the season in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to seriously threaten Hickory’s early lead.
Salem Highlights:
Starlyn Nunez: Provided a small offensive exclamation mark with a double.
Frederik Jimenez: One of the few active assets. 2 hits, including a home run and a double, plus 2 RBIs.
