Welcome back, Red Sox Nation, to the daily farm report on fenway-fans.de! It was a turbulent day for our Red Sox prospects. While Worcester suffered a heavy defeat, the Sea Dogs showed nerves of steel late in the game. Greenville was rained out once again, and Salem had to battle through a doubleheader.
Here is your compact recap of yesterday’s minor league action!
Worcester Red Sox (AAA) – A Night to Forget at Polar Park
Final Score: Rochester Red Wings 12 – Worcester Red Sox 1
That was rough. The WooSox experienced a true disaster at home against the Red Wings. The pitching staff never found their rhythm, and the offense spent the evening in a deep slumber.
Rochester exploded for five runs in the very first inning, including two home runs, immediately knocking the wind out of Worcester’s sails. From that point on, the game was essentially over. Our only bright spot on the scoreboard came in the fifth inning: Matt Thaiss reached base on an error, stole second, and was finally driven home by an RBI single from Braiden Ward. The opposing defense didn’t allow anything else.
WooSox Highlights:
- Matt Lloyd: Fought against the loss and at least managed to hit two singles.
- Braiden Ward: Provided the lone run of the day with his RBI single.
- Pitching: A tough day at the office. Starter Jack Anderson (1-3) allowed six earned runs in just three innings.
Portland Sea Dogs (AA) – Late Comeback Secures the Win!
Final Score: Reading Fightin Phils 1 – Portland Sea Dogs 2
What an exciting evening for the Sea Dogs! After trailing by a slim margin for most of the game, they turned things around in the eighth inning with smart, situational baseball.
The Fightin Phils took the lead with a home run in the first inning and extended it with another solo shot in the fifth. Portland’s offense struggled for a long time. But in the eighth inning, the Sea Dogs finally broke through! Pinch-hitter Bryson Ware sparked the rally with a furious triple into center field. Aroon Escobar capitalized on the opportunity, driving Ware home with a groundout to make it 2-1. The offense kept pushing, and an error by Reading’s defense allowed Portland to score the decisive second run shortly after. The outstanding Reidis Sena closed the door in the ninth inning.
Sea Dogs Highlights:
- Bryson Ware: His triple in the eighth inning was the absolute game-changer, waking up the entire team.
- John Holobetz: The pitcher secured a well-deserved win (W) after a flawless relief appearance.
- Reidis Sena: Stayed cool under pressure, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save (S).
Salem Red Sox (Single-A) – A Split in the Doubleheader
Because yesterday’s game was rained out, the boys in Salem had to take the field twice.
Game 1: Salem Red Sox 1 – Hillcats 2 (Extra Innings) The first game turned into a real pitching duel and went into extra innings tied at 1-1 (the 8th inning, since MiLB doubleheader games are often only 7 innings long). Unfortunately, our guys came up short. Jose Pirela was a standout performer, hitting an RBI double and successfully stealing third base.
Game 2: Salem Red Sox 3 – Hillcats 1 In the second game, Salem showed the right reaction and got the win! Givian Sirvania provided an early lead with a powerful 2-run double in the second inning. Avinson Pinto provided the exclamation point, blasting a beautiful home run over the fence in the seventh inning.
Greenville Drive (High-A) – Rained Out Again!
The weather is really not cooperating with Greenville this week. Both the makeup game from the day before and the regularly scheduled game had to be completely canceled due to rain.
