A Narrow WooSox Win and an Epic Offensive Spectacle in Greenville!
Welcome back, Red Sox Nation, to the daily farm report on fenway-fans.de! Yesterday’s action in the farm system was not for the faint of heart. From extra innings to games where the scoreboard just wouldn’t stop flashing, it had it all. Only Worcester could celebrate in the end.
Here is your compact recap of yesterday’s minor league action!
Worcester Red Sox (AAA) – A Crucial and Close Road Victory
Final Score: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5 – Worcester Red Sox 6
The WooSox showed nerves of steel, securing a hard-fought 6-5 victory against the RailRiders.
The offensive foundation was laid by Mikey Romero in the third inning. With a massive 2-run home run, he put his team on the winning track early on. Worcester extended their lead to 5-3 in the fourth inning through smart hitting and aggressive baserunning. However, the game remained extremely tight until the very end. The RailRiders tied the game 5-5 in the seventh inning.
In the eighth inning, it was Allan Castro who shined with a brilliant triple. He was immediately brought home by an RBI single from Jason Delay – that was the decisive game-winner! The bullpen, led by Zack Kelly (Win) and Tommy Kahnle (Save), then confidently held the narrow lead.
WooSox Highlights:
- Mikey Romero: His third home run of the season was hugely important for early momentum.
- Allan Castro: 2 hits, including the crucial game-winning triple in the eighth inning.
- Nate Eaton: Hit his 11th double of the season and was a constant nuisance on the basepaths.
Portland Sea Dogs (AA) – Extra-Inning Walk-Off Heartbreak
Final Score: Portland Sea Dogs 4 – Binghamton Rumble Ponies 5 (10 Innings)
An absolute thriller that unfortunately ended bitterly for the Sea Dogs. Portland found themselves in a tight game where small mistakes were immediately punished.
In the sixth inning, Nate Baez showed off his power, hammering a 2-run home run over the fence to temporarily tie the game. However, the Rumble Ponies took advantage of some defensive insecurities and lapses in concentration (including a balk call and wild pitches) to stay in the game.
In extra innings (10th inning), the bullpen faltered. Dan Hammer couldn’t prevent the ghost runner on second base from advancing, and Raudelis Martinez ultimately gave up the decisive walk-off hit to Chris Suero. A painful loss after a hard fight.
(Rehab Note: Jorge Polanco played his third game for Binghamton and hit a strong 3-run home run against our Sea Dogs).
Sea Dogs Highlights:
- Nate Baez: His 5th home run of the season once again showcased his power capabilities.
- Marvin Alcantara: Stood out with a hard double and managed to keep the opposing defense busy.
Greenville Drive (High-A) – An Epic 21-Run Spectacle!
Final Score: Asheville Tourists 13 – Greenville Drive 8
Anyone who loves offensive baseball got their money’s worth in this game! An incredible 21 runs and 23 hits were produced in this wild slugfest, where our Drive unfortunately came up short in the end.
Greenville’s early lead (4-0) didn’t last long. The Tourists turned the game around with strong hitting performances (especially from Justin Thomas Jr. and Ethan Frey). However, the Drive’s offense never gave up. Mason White was the man of the night for Greenville: He crushed a massive 3-run home run in the first inning and later crowned his performance with a crucial double (totaling 3 RBIs).
Despite a strong fighting spirit, our bullpen (specifically Eurys Martich and Shea Sprague) collapsed in the late innings, allowing a combined six runs in innings eight and nine. That sealed the loss in this crazy game.
Drive Highlights:
- Mason White: A fantastic game! A home run, a double, and 3 RBIs showcased his class.
- Freuddy Batista: Performed consistently well, hitting a home run and securing 2 RBIs.
Salem Red Sox (Single-A) – Hickory Steamrolls Salem in the Eighth
Final Score: Hickory Crawdads 9 – Salem Red Sox 3
For a long time, it looked like a close, exciting game. Up until the eighth inning, Salem was only narrowly trailing 4-3. But then disaster struck in the form of a terrible eighth inning for our prospects.
The Crawdads scored an unbelievable five runs in that frame, benefiting from numerous walks, wild pitches, and carelessness from the Salem defense. The Red Sox offense had no answer. The only bright spot was Skylar King, who hit his fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning.
Salem Highlights:
Stanley Tucker: Aggressive on the bases! He stole a sensational three bases in this game.
Skylar King: His home run provided a temporary equalizer.
D’Angelo Ortiz: Showed consistency at the plate, securing 2 hits.
