Boston's infield depth is tested once more as a right oblique strain sidelines the utility man. Anthony Seigler recalled from Triple-A.
Hey Red Sox Nation! It is beginning to feel like a recurring nightmare in this 2026 season. Just as we were celebrating Marcelo Mayer making his everyday debut at shortstop, the injury bug bites the Boston Red Sox infield yet again. The team officially announced today that infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard has been placed on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to May 31st) due to a right oblique strain.
According to reports, the 28-year-old switch-hitter began feeling discomfort in his right side following Saturday’s 9-1 road win in Cleveland. The soreness reportedly made it impossible for him to bat from the left side, prompting the front office to make the roster move. Sogard has been a valuable chess piece for interim manager Chad Tracy over 12 games this year, batting .257 while logging starts at second base, third base, and shortstop.
To fill the vacancy on the active roster, the Red Sox have recalled infielder Anthony Seigler from Triple-A Worcester. The 26-year-old Arizona native and former 2018 Yankees first-round pick was acquired by Boston in a trade back in February. Seigler has been tearing it up for the WooSox lately, slashing .298/.396 with seven doubles, three home runs, and 21 RBIs across 30 games while splitting time across second and third base.
With Sogard sidelined, expect guys like Isiah Kiner-Falefa to pick up some extra slack in the middle infield rotation while Seigler adjusts to his new big league surroundings.
What are your thoughts on Anthony Seigler getting the call-up to Fenway? Do you think he can translate his hot Triple-A bat into instant production for the big league club? Let me know in the comments below! Go Sox!
