The Offense Keeps Rolling: A Perfect Baseball Sunday Night for the German Red Sox Nation
Good morning, Red Sox Nation! Following Saturday’s brilliant blowout, we had an absolute treat waiting for us yesterday. The decisive third game of the series in Cleveland started right on time at 7:42 PM German time (CEST). What could be better than winding down your Sunday evening on the couch with some prime-time baseball? Our Boston Red Sox rewarded us for tuning in with a magnificent 9-4 victory, securing a highly important series win against the strong Guardians. In this Boston Red Sox game report for fenway-fans.de, we look back at a game that was completely decided by an unbelievable seventh inning.
Duran Starts with a Bang, but Cleveland Bites Back
The game started with an absolute bang. The very first batter of the game, Jarren Duran, wasted no time and hammered the ball straight into the stands for a crushing leadoff homerun (a homerun by the first batter of the game). The 1-0 lead was the perfect start to this baseball evening!
However, the Guardians showed exactly why they lead the American League Central. Against our Starting Pitcher (the pitcher who starts the game) Ranger Suarez, who was solid for long stretches (5.0 IP, 4 ER), they managed to turn the game around. An RBI double (a hit to second base resulting in a run) by José Ramírez and another one by Rhys Hoskins put Cleveland ahead 4-3 in the fifth Inning (period of play). The game was on a knife’s edge.
The Seventh Inning: The Red Sox Open the Floodgates
What happened in the seventh frame likely pulled every fan in Germany right out of their chair. Cleveland’s bullpen (the group of relief pitchers) completely collapsed, and our boys capitalized on it mercilessly.
After Colin Holderman and Tim Herrin loaded the bases via walks (free passes) and singles, Wilyer Abreu forced the 4-4 tie with a patient bases-loaded walk. Then, Masataka Yoshida stepped up to the plate and delivered: A hard-hit 2-RBI single (a hit to first base scoring two runs) gave us a 6-4 lead!
Isiah Kiner-Falefa immediately followed up with another RBI single before Caleb Durbin put the crown on the inning. With a breathtaking 2-run triple (a hit to third base scoring two runs), he smashed the ball deep into right field. Six runs in a single inning – a 3-4 deficit turned into a comfortable 9-4 lead!
Chapman Closes the Door
The rest of the game was a dominant showing by our bullpen. Jovani Morán, Tyron Guerrero, and Greg Weissert kept the Guardians’ bats quiet. In the ninth inning, Aroldis Chapman took the mound and finished the game in style with two quick strikeouts (three missed swings by the batter). The victory was ours!
Statistical Overview
- Caleb Durbin: 1-for-5, 3B (Triple), 2 RBI (Runs Batted In). His massive hit broke the Guardians’ back.
- Masataka Yoshida: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, Run. Extremely important during the clutch phase.
- Jarren Duran: 1-for-3, HR, 2 Walks, 2 Runs, RBI. A constant threat at the plate.
- Aroldis Chapman: 1.0 IP (Innings Pitched), 0 ER, 2 K. A dominant finish.
With this fantastic win, our record climbs to 25-33. Winning two in a row against a top-tier team like Cleveland is exactly the exclamation point we needed in the American League East right now!
