WooSox and Sea Dogs Shine, Heartbreak for Greenville and Salem

Welcome back, Red Sox Nation, to the daily farm report on fenway-fans.de! Yesterday brought a split 2-2 record for our Red Sox prospects. While the upper-level affiliates (AAA and AA) shined with dominant pitching and offensive power, our younger squads in Greenville and Salem unfortunately suffered tough losses.

Here is your compact recap of yesterday’s minor league action!

Worcester Red Sox (AAA) – Bennett and Seigler Lead the Blowout

Final Score: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 1 – Worcester Red Sox 8

What a commanding performance by the WooSox! Playing at home at PNC Park, they didn’t give the RailRiders a chance and cruised to a decisive 8-1 victory.

The foundation for the win was laid on the mound. Starting pitcher Jake Bennett dominated the opposing lineup, throwing five innings, allowing just one run, and striking out an impressive 7 batters. Offensively, Anthony Seigler made an early statement with a 2-run home run in the very first inning. The WooSox then blew the game wide open in the third and fourth innings with clutch hitting and aggressive baserunning.

WooSox Highlights:

  • Jake Bennett: A masterclass on the bump (5.0 IP, 1 ER, 7 K) to earn his third win of the year.
  • Anthony Seigler: 3 hits in 5 at-bats, including a home run and a massive 3 RBIs.
  • Nate Eaton: Ripped two hard doubles and contributed 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Portland Sea Dogs (AA) – Pitching Dominance and the Long Ball

Final Score: Binghamton Rumble Ponies 2 – Portland Sea Dogs 6

The Sea Dogs also showed up ready to play, securing a comfortable 6-2 victory over Binghamton! Similar to Worcester, starting pitching was the absolute key to success.

Blake Wehunt was unstoppable on the mound. In six innings, he allowed only one (unearned) run and racked up 8 strikeouts. The offense gave him plenty of support via the long ball. Three different Sea Dogs – Will Turner, Franklin Arias, and Johanfran Garcia – launched home runs out of the park. It was a perfect combination of shutdown pitching and powerful hitting!

Sea Dogs Highlights:

  • Blake Wehunt: A dominant start (6.0 IP, 0 ER, 8 K) secured him the well-deserved win.
  • The Home Run Machines: Turner (5th HR), Arias (impressive 12th HR!), and Garcia (7th HR) provided the power.
  • Raudelis Martinez: Found a gap in the sixth inning for a clutch 2-run double.

Greenville Drive (High-A) – Late Rally Falls Short

Final Score: Frederick Keys 6 – Greenville Drive 4

The Drive spent most of this game playing from behind. Starting pitcher Dylan Brown struggled to find his rhythm, allowing several hits and runs over his five innings of work, putting Greenville in an early hole.

The offense had a hard time getting going early on, but woke up in the late innings. Adonys Guzman hit a solo home run in the seventh, and top prospect Yoeilin Cespedes provided a glimmer of hope in the top of the ninth with his eighth home run of the season (a 2-run shot). Unfortunately, the late surge wasn’t quite enough to flip the game.

Drive Highlights:

  • Yoeilin Cespedes: His 8th home run of the year once again proved his clutch ability late in games.
  • Adonys Guzman: Provided the offensive wake-up call with his seventh-inning blast.

Salem Red Sox (Single-A) – Bullpen Stumbles in the Eighth

Final Score: Hickory Crawdads 4 – Salem Red Sox 2

An extremely tough ending for Salem. Our Single-A squad fought hard for seven innings, tying the game at 2-2 thanks to an RBI single by Skylar King and a sacrifice fly from Adonys Guzman.

The drama unfolded in the top of the eighth inning. A walk, a single, and a costly wild pitch by reliever Jay Allmer gave the opponents the lead. A subsequent double play brought home another run for the Crawdads. Salem’s offense couldn’t find an answer in the final two frames.

Salem Highlights:

Moises Morales: The starter delivered a solid performance (5.0 IP, 2 ER) keeping the team in the game early on.

Kleyver Salazar: Showed a great eye at the plate, picking up 2 hits including a double.
