Entering the 2026 season, the Boston Red Sox looked to Roman Anthony to be the absolute centerpiece of the lineup. Unfortunately, nearly two months in, the reality has been incredibly frustrating. More Information

Anthony has been sidelined with a wrist injury since May 4th. But even before he got hurt, things were not clicking at all. “Kind of a letdown, honestly,” Anthony admitted to the Boston Globe. Through 30 games, he was hitting just .229 with a single home run. The major issue holding him back? A glaring 50% ground ball rate. Anthony knows exactly what needs to change to get the ball elevated. “When I’m at my best, my swing decisions are great,” he noted, emphasizing that swinging at better pitches will solve the launch angle issue.

To make matters worse, his recent rehab took a painful step backward. After finally starting to swing a bat again, Anthony felt soreness in the wrist, prompting interim manager Chad Tracy to shut him down immediately. As of right now, there is no clear timetable for his return.

Despite the current gloom, there was some high praise from a fellow superstar recently. Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. spoke highly of Anthony during our recent series, praising his extremely professional at-bats and comparing Anthony’s early-career trajectory to his own. Even though times are tough right now, Anthony remains optimistic, reminding fans that there will still be a lot of baseball left to play once he finally returns.

What do you think, Red Sox fans? Can Roman Anthony turn his sophomore season around once he is healthy, or is 2026 turning into a developmental year? Let me know in the comments below! Go Sox!
