With a mind-boggling OPS, our No. 1 prospect is forcing the issue. A mysterious mid-game exit in Portland is fueling major call-up rumors.
Hey Red Sox Nation! Have you taken a close look at the Portland Sea Dogs’ box scores lately? If not, you are completely missing out on the absolute masterclass being put on by our 20-year-old infield phenom, Franklin Arias! According to a brand-new report by the Boston Herald, the young Venezuelan shortstop is playing so out of his mind right now that he has officially forced his way onto the MLB radar.
Arias, who has skyrocketed to the top of most prospect rankings as the undeniable No. 1 guy in our system, is simply tearing up Double-A pitching this year. We are talking about a ridiculous OPS over the 1.000 mark, a batting average hovering around an elite .330, and massive power at the plate. When you combine that kind of offensive explosiveness with his already elite, slick-fielding defense at shortstop, it becomes obvious why the entire league is watching him so closely right now.
But here is where the story gets really juicy: The Boston rumor mill has been spinning out of control since Arias was abruptly pulled from a game in Portland last weekend in the fifth inning. Was he injured? Not at all! The official explanation was simply a mysterious “manager decision.” Naturally, pulling a flawless top prospect mid-game sends shockwaves through the fanbase. Is he getting his well-deserved promotion to Triple-A Worcester? Or is Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow considering the ultimate wild card move by bringing him straight to Fenway Park to spark our struggling major league offense?
One thing is for sure: Arias has essentially outgrown Double-A at this point. What do you guys think? Should the front office take it slow and let him develop in Worcester first, or would you throw him straight into the deep end of the MLB? Drop your thoughts in the comments below! Go Sox!
