Farm Report: WooSox lose crazy 9-run thriller, Sea Dogs shine with 1-0 shutout. Greenville and Salem rained out. All MiLB updates for Boston Red Sox fans!
Welcome back, Red Sox Nation, to the daily farm report on fenway-fans.de! While rain completely disrupted the schedule in the lower levels, our upper-level Red Sox prospects delivered pure drama. We witnessed an offensive spectacle in Worcester and a true pitching masterpiece in Portland.
Here is the recap of yesterday’s minor league action!
Worcester Red Sox (AAA) – Nine Runs Are Too Much at Polar Park
Final Score: Rochester Red Wings 9 – Worcester Red Sox 4
What a wild game at Polar Park! The WooSox fell behind early but showed impressive offensive resilience in the middle innings. Unfortunately, the pitching staff couldn’t contain the Red Wings’ late surge.
Worcester gave up four quick runs in the very first inning. But the team fought back beautifully! The comeback started in the third frame with sacrifice flies from Seaver King and Abimelec Ortiz. In the fourth inning, the offense truly ignited: clutch hits by Christian Franklin and Seaver King gave Worcester a 5-4 lead. Sadly, the bullpen collapsed in the seventh and particularly in the ninth inning, allowing Rochester to run away with a 9-4 victory.
WooSox Highlights:
- Abimelec Ortiz: A great plate approach! He collected 2 walks, was hit by a pitch, and drove in an important run.
- Phillip Glasser & Tres Barrera: Both shined with two hits each, keeping the offense alive all day.
- Seaver King: Reliably produced two RBIs, including a clutch base hit in the fourth inning.
Portland Sea Dogs (AA) – Pitching Masterclass Leads to 1-0 Win
Final Score: Reading Fightin Phils 0 – Portland Sea Dogs 1
If you are a fan of dominant pitching, this game was an absolute dream! The Sea Dogs delivered a defensive masterpiece, securing an extremely tight but well-deserved 1-0 shutout victory against the Fightin Phils.
The only run of the game occurred in the third inning. Marvin Alcantara singled, and shortly after, Nate Baez hit a well-placed groundout that allowed Will Turner to cross the plate. From that point on, the pitching staff took complete control. Starter Blake Wehunt threw five outstanding shutout innings, followed by a flawless performance from the bullpen.
Sea Dogs Highlights:
- Blake Wehunt: The starter dominated through 5.0 innings, allowing only 4 hits while securing the win (W).
- Marvin Alcantara: He was the driving force of the offense, collecting an outstanding 3 hits.
- Cooper Adams: The closer sealed the deal, securing the save (S) with two flawless innings.
Greenville Drive (High-A) & Salem Red Sox (Single-A) – Rained Out
The bats in Greenville and Salem unfortunately stayed cold last night – not because of poor performance, but because of the weather.
Both games fell victim to the rain and were postponed. The makeup games are already scheduled and will be played today, May 22, as doubleheaders. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather cooperates today!
