An 0-4 Day to Forget!
Welcome back, Red Sox Nation! There are days in baseball that you just want to flush and move on from. June 11th was exactly that kind of day for our farm system. All four full-season affiliates suffered defeats, some of them in blowout fashion, and Mother Nature claimed another contest.
Here is the recap of a rough day.
Worcester Red Sox – 4:6 Loss to the Rochester Red Wings (Game 2 Cancelled)
The Worcester Red Sox started hot but couldn’t hold on, falling 4:6. Catcher Matt Thaiss launched a 3-run home run in the very first inning to give the team an early lead. Nathan Hickey added an RBI double in the fourth. However, starter Luis Perales struggled (3.2 IP, 4 ER, 5 K), and the offense went silent in the later innings.
Additionally, the scheduled second game of their doubleheader against the Rochester Red Wings was cancelled due to rain.
Portland Sea Dogs – 3:5 Loss to the Reading Fightin Phils
The Portland Sea Dogs also came up short, losing 3:5 to the Reading Fightin Phils. The offensive highlights came in the third inning when Brooks Brannon and Johanfran Garcia hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Will Turner launched a solo home run in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit created after starter Dalton Rogers allowed four earned runs in three innings.
Greenville Drive – 1:9 Loss to the Winston-Salem Dash
It was a blowout loss for the Greenville Drive, who were dismantled 1:9 by the Winston-Salem Dash. Starter Jojo Ingrassia pitched three scoreless innings, but the bullpen collapsed completely after his departure, allowing nine runs. The Drive offense was completely shut down, scoring their only run in the eighth inning on a double-play groundout by Ronny Hernandez.
Salem Red Sox – 5:12 Loss to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers
The Salem Red Sox were routed 5:12 by the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. D’Angelo Ortiz provided a brief spark with a solo home run in the third inning. The team showed a bit of life in the sixth inning by scoring four runs (highlighted by a 2-run double from Ilan Fernandez), but the pitching staff, led by starter Leighton Finley (4.1 IP, 4 ER), simply couldn’t contain the opposition.
